Orell Fitzsimmons’s first exposure to ACORN was a brief four month stint as a canvasser (Houston, TX, 1976), but he continued as a friend and ally to Houston ACORN. Involvement in a campaign to organize beer workers at the Astrodome brought him back to ACORN´s union organization, Local 100, where he worked from 1991-2000 as Organizing Director and State Director, bringing the ACORN organizing approach to labor organizing. He also served on the board of ACORN´s network of radio stations AM/FM and on ACORN´s National Executive Board.
