Shary Rubin was hired as a canvasser in the Chicago ACORN office in 1996. She set numerous canvassing records and was quickly promoted to Field Manager and then Canvass Director. In this interview, she describes her family influences, and how her uncle and cousins — who were very politically active in her hometown of Milwaukee — left a deep impression on her. Shortly after college, she found her dream job working for ACORN in Chicago. She describes the tremendous joy and satisfaction she derived from working for ACORN and the number of great friends she still has some 35+ years later.
