Guadalupe (Lupita) Gonzalez joined ACORN in Los Angeles as a volunteer member working on school safety issues at her daughter’s elementary school in 2000. She joined the staff in 2003, the same year in which she won the top prize for the number of new members recruited across all of the ACORN affiliates across the country. She currently leads work on housing and tenant protection at ACCE in Los Angeles. In this interview, she reflects on the role of an organizer and importance of organizing. She also details her personal history as an immigrant from Mexico and a mother of four.
