Kaye worked for ACORN in North Little Rock, AR, starting in 1973, for 3 years. In this interview Kaye talks about how she was frustrated by the limitations placed on her work as a VISTA volunteer, and how she then reached out to ACORN. She describes her first organizing drive, and her work setting up a Food Buyers Club as a membership recruiting vehicle. She left ACORN, worked for a small neighborhood organizing group in Baltimore, then went to nursing school and became a nurse at a hospital in Syracuse, where she led a successful union organizing drive among the nurses, as part of SEIU. Kaye credits her ACORN experience with her success at organizing her workplace.
