In this interview, Ron Shiffman covers a lot of ground regarding housing and foreclosure issues in general, with lots of historical perspective. He speaks about his work with NY ACORN during the squatting campaign and the formation of MHANY in the 1980’s. He also speaks about his work on development planning in New Orleans with ACORN after Hurricane Katrina. He has some criticisms of ACORN in the switch from the homesteaders to MHANY coop process and white organizers. He discusses ACORN’s model, strengths and the need for back to basics, as well as ACORN-like organizations now.
