In this interview, Steuart Pittman discusses his experience joining ACORN first as a canvasser and then becoming an organizer. He worked as a community organizer in Chicago, and then lead the Des Moines, IA chapter, and later ACORN National, working on housing and insurance issues. He reflects on what it took to build and exercise power, ACORN’s legacy, and how ACORN navigated race. He currently serves as the County Executive for Anne Arundel County, and talks about how being an organizer prepared him for elected office.
