Shayla Austin

Shayla Austin was a ACORN canvasser and organizer from 2005-2009. In this interview, she speaks about her time as a canvasser and then on the ACORN/UFT home daycare organizing campaign. She stresses the importance of membership dues, funding by the members and taking direction from the members, as well as the importance of working on local issues. She also discusses the doctored tapes by James O’Keefe, which played a role in the end of ACORN.
