Helaine Doran first worked with ACORN when she coordinated the NYC Save Our Schools Coalition (January 1991-December 1993). At the time, she was a parent activist and had been elected to the District 2 Community School Board. She joined the staff of the ACORN NYC Schools Office in January 1994, becoming its Director in December 1994. She continued in that role until April 1998, when she became Director of the ACORN National Schools Office, serving in that role through October 1998.
