Jessica Angus
Jessica began her work as a New Party organizer with Little Rock ACORN from 1998-2000; then, after a break, came back to help build ACORN’s national political program as national field director for the Political Department. In this interview, she talks about building an independent political party in Little Rock and electing two ACORN leaders to the Little Rock city council. She then discusses building the massive ACORN national political program, with over 100 full-time staff and 1000+ part-time workers. She discusses the three successful statewide minimum wage ballot initiatives that she oversaw (FL, MO, and OH), as well as ACORN’s huge voter registration program. Jessica reflects on lessons from that work, and how she has taken those lessons into her current work, for 18 years, with SEIU, all of it at Local 880 and its successor locals.
