Mary Ellen Smith was an active South Philadelphia member/leader. In this interview, she speaks about campaigns in South Philly to win against a polluting oil company, private health clinics, and city wide campaigns against utility companies. She touches on race, direct action, political work, her role on the Philly and National boards, and some time she spent on staff as a political coordinator. She stopped being active with ACORN when the organization’s focus turned mainly to housing. She is now a hospital volunteer and democratic committee woman.
