Nila Edwards joined ACORN in the early nineties as a leader in East New York. Though she was interested in many neighborhood issues, what most attracted her interest was education issues (she has four children.). In 1993, she joined the staff of the NYC ACORN Schools Office and continued in that role for more than ten years. She also worked on an ACORN allied organizing campaign of home daycare providers seeking union representation with the UFT.
