In this interview, Stephanie Porta discusses how her campus activism and organizing brought her to ACORN, and what she learned from her time helping to build and run the Florida chapter. She shares her experiences on the doors and how they successfully built chapters across the state, their efforts organizing different communities and legislative efforts, their relationship with funders, and what was lost after ACORN was destroyed by the Right. She also reflects on the internal organizing culture at ACORN, and the positive and negative lessons learned that she thinks can be applied to organizing today (e.g. the importance of having a clear organizing model, an incredibly demanding environment, etc.).
